With fall around the corner, I'm happy to get back into my favorite textures: suede, denim and leather. Not that I wasn't already wearing these all throughout summer, but something about camel-colored jackets, stiff boyfriend jeans and all-black (instead of white) sneakers cements the transition into cooler weather. My tip for transitioning from summer to fall with wardrobe staples? Go for light colored jackets (my preferred summer/fall color is camel or sand-like this one from Live A Little) and loose fitting denim, aka the boyfriend fit, and pair them with easy-going sneakers.

A bit of texture play here; to balance the softness of suede, I dug out my favorite boyfriend jeans, a pair of Levi's, that I believe were my first purchase from Nordstrom Rack, and has since been worn in and faded perfectly. I think the combo of suede and denim are easily categorized as "western" and "boho" - so as to not fall into a category, I accessorized with a black straw hat and casual Dr. Marten sneakers (Converse-look but with added zipper details), also from Nordstrom Rack, to modernize it a bit.

Forever a fan of fall, I can't wait until the weather really allows for some shearling, enveloping coats and insulating boots. For now I’ll stick with the light jackets, faded jeans, and flat sneakers.

Travel and beauty

Despite having an arsenal of beauty products, I tend to pack really lightly when I travel. I choose carefully which ones I want to bring with me and tend to ask myself: does this serve at least two functions, will it last an entire day with one application, can I achieve two different looks with this palette, is it compact, etc. What I choose to pack always, is: my set of Sigma brushes, this long-lasting liquid liner from Ardency Inn, and some reliable Fatboy putty hair paste from Urban Outfitters.

My favorite of the Sigma brushes is their 3DHD kabuki brush. Normally kabuki brushes are associated with all-over face application, and while I do use it to apply face powder, I've found that this brush, angled a certain way, can also be used as an effective contour brush. And if you angle the brush more carefully, you might even have a third use for it and utilize it for highlighting. On short trips where I spend 1-2 nights away, I'll first use the brush for face powder (MakeUpForEver's is long-lasting and light), and then apply highlighter (here: Hourglass 'Ambient' lighting palette) on one side of the angled brush, and then bronzer (love Urban Decay's Naked Flush in 'Strip') on the other side.

I'm also in love with Ardency Inn's Modster Easy Ride Supercharged Liquid eyeliner - it really does stay on all day and probably has the best tip for smoothly applying a mean cat-eye. It's perfect for long-flights, festivals, and an on-the-go lifestyle in general. Another one of my favorite products is this Fatboy putty - a little bit of this goop will tousle up the hair for that undone look, and leave it with a matte finish. What I love most about it though, is that I can also use it to dab over my eyebrows and lock the brows and brow powder in place. At home, I use Eyeko's tinted eyebrow gel to keep it in place but when I travel, I take Fatboy's to save on space with its dual function.

Love that I can get most of my versatile beauty products for travel all from Urban Outfitters. Shop below for some of my other multi-use favorites:

As mentioned in an earlier post, I like to bring Simple Skincare products with me when I travel. My skin is somewhat sensitive so it responds to dry air, unpredictable weather conditions, etc. and Simple Skincare's products help relieve that quite quickly. I've been using the Micellar Cleansing Water for some time now, and now I also bring their newest Micellar Make-Up Remover Wipes with me when I'm on-the-go to instantly hydrate and cleanse my skin.

As you know, the Micellar Cleansing Water is made with triple-purified water (the purest possible kind of water, which removes all contaminants to make sure there is nothing to irritate the skin), and Pro-Vitamin B3 and Vitamin C. The Micellar Wipes, my new favorite skincare product, also consist of the same ingredients, along with "Micelle technology cleansing bubbles" which are engineered to attract and really lift makeup so that there are no impurities left. The Micellar Wipes contain no alcohol or oil but takes makeup off very effectively without drying the skin out or making it feel greasy- just pure, instantly hydrated skin. Yes, using the cleanser and the wipes together before climbing into bed is absolutely blissful after a long day of travel and being on-the-go.

Defying summer

Nearing the tail end of summer here and although it has yet to cool down enough, I'll take it as an early sign to get back into the fall swing of things - mainly, way of dress. And by dress I mean wearing a long woolen cardigan and clunky boots and coolly meshing that with summer-friendly things like destructed shorts and low-buttoned blouses.

Come with me to Outside Lands

8/4/15

Neon Blush, Outside Lands Music Festival, San Francisco music festival, PayPal, makeup, Ray-Ban wayfarer sunglasses, Kate Somerville sunscreen SPF lotion, Mario Badescu rosewater spray face mist, Fujifilm Instax Mini 90 camera, polaroid camera, liquid eyeliner Urban OutfittersClockwise from top: Kate Somerville body glow sunscreen, Mario Badescu facial spray, Ray-Ban wayfarers, Ardency Inn liquid liner, Fujifilm Instax mini 90 camera

As you guys know, I love me some music-festival. In the past year and a half alone, I have gone to six and will have gone to my seventh and eighth by the end of this month. My point is: I've had enough of these rodeos to know exactly what knick knacks I need with me on festival grounds.

Consider the things you see above a part of my all-star festival "survival kit": my favorite body sunscreen that gives you that sun-kissed glow; a facial spray for the (many) times you'll feel burnt out and in need of a quick refresher; a pair of effortless-chic sunglasses that go with everything, found in the form of the classic wayfarer; a liquid liner that's easy to apply, stays on all day, and is waterproof so you don't have to worry about reapplying after dancing and sweating a storm; and a compact polaroid camera perfect for capturing the music festival mood and memories. All of these are purchasable on Nordstrom and Urban Outfitters, two of the many retailers that conveniently accept PayPal as a form of payment.

Here's the fun part: I'm teaming up with PayPal to give away one 3-day GA pass to the Outside Lands music festival happening this weekend, August 7-9. In addition, the winner of the pass will win all of the aforementioned "survival kit" items in a locker found at the festival. All you have to do is:

- Tweet your best survival tip for festival going
- Tag @PayPal and #PYPLxOSL in your tweet

That's it! You'll want to participate, because 1) this locker will be stocked with my festival favorites alongside other surprise items PayPal is throwing in, 2) you'll also receive PayPal credit for Lyft rides for OSL, and 3) who doesn't want to go see Odesza, Glass Animals, Caribou with me (I've been raving about them consistently, hellooo)? Giveaway stays open until Thursday, where a potential winner will be picked and announced by PayPal. Good luck!
