Silver blue and 90s

Six things in constant rotation, altogether: black beanie, this black cropped top that seems to resurface more prominently every week, this slinky slip dress in a perfect shimmery icy blue from For Love & Lemons, Audrey glasses in tortoise, my favorite slouchy bag, and those Theyskens' boots I've near worn to the damn ground. Very much into the monochrome and the 90s tinge, more than usual anyway, right now and I'm not looking forward to the polar change in dress when I get over to NYC next week. With all the new establishments happening around downtown, my fondness for LA is growing deeper rooted- 75-degree winter and all. I kid, I don't mean to rub it in... but pulling away from easy 90s dressing will be missed while out on the east coast, for sure.

Life of spring

Even in the dead of winter, the air in Florence was warm and welcoming. The colorful, blue and golden-hued buildings lined up on the alleyways brought the life of spring into the city, despite standing against dismal skies.

While in Florence, the Luisaviaroma team welcomed our stay at the Grand Hotel Villa Cora, an extravagantly beautiful mansion- surrounded with blooms galore, pink and mint pastel-colored walls, it was hard to even believe that we'd spent our time there in January. It was no surprise that nearly the entire group completed their Style Labs at the Villa Cora, then, because it was like we were living in spring. For the third look, I went for cuts in my usual get up (crop top x frilly miniskirt), but in a color and print more relevant for warmer weather. As I was making my way out of the Luisaviaroma store to shoot at the Villa Cora, I saw this sheer biker jacket and fell hard for its unique approach to outerwear. Biker jackets (a term usually paired with winter wear), in sheer silk perfection, are made appropriate for warmer weather thanks to Christopher Kane...

Barcelona, Barcelona, Barcelona... I had the shortest stay in this beautiful city out of all the places I got to visit in Europe, but it was arguably one of the best. Transitioning from Paris to Brussels, and then over to sunny Barcelona, my friends and I nearly freaked out for being in familiar climate again. Their winter felt a lot like an LA winter, where bare legs and light layers were acceptable. I took out that ol' black skort (that I haphazardly packed hoping it would serve as a stroke of luck with the sun) and paired it with Isabel sneaks I got in Paris.

I think what made Barcelona so warm to me was its resemblance to LA- the cityscape was sort of dreary and gritty (just a lot sexier somehow, ha) like downtown LA but the people, the hospitality, the food scene, the buzz in the city made it feel alive and thriving. Fell in love with the strange feeling of comfort and newness in Barcelona... and I miss it greatly, but I know I'll revisit it in the near future. Thanks for the great memories, B.

Layer me up

1/15/14

Sally Hershberger hair, layered hair cut, Asian hair styles, Neon Blush, Sally Hershberger West Hollywood
It's been a couple days since my cut at Sally Hershberger and I'm going to admit that I'm still narcissistically obsessed with my hair. I've reiterated a few times before how I don't usually fuss with hair- I kind of suck at it, and truthfully I'm a creature of habit so I don't usually experiment with different lengths or colors (the 'ombre' on my hair is actually an accident from the likely combination of sun exposure and two dye jobs, one from a chestnut brown color and the second an attempt to get my natural color back). So I get extremely excited when I find a salon (and/or a hairstylist more specifically) that can make my 'ordinary' hair feel extraordinary.

I arrived at their West Hollywood location last weekend and was blown away with the view- they share a building with Kelly Wearstler but they're perched on the third floor and the store overlooks a good span of LA. Coupled with a solid curation of good music, plenty of tall windows and a generous influx of sunlight, the Sally Hershberger LA salon is breathtaking. Sat right down and consulted with Tanya, who was carefully observant of my hair texture, the way it naturally splits, the shape of my head as well as its apex, etc. Got a soothing wash with Sally Hershberger's luxurious shampoo and conditioner and sat back at Tanya's station to get layers.

Before I knew it, my hair was done- cut, dried, styled. I hadn't even realized how much time had passed because of how much I genuinely enjoyed talking with Tanya. I'm no hair aficionado, but I know a good salon when I see one. My experience at Sally Hershberger was--I know this is going to sound corny, but I rarely feel enthusiastic about hair salons--magical. There's something to be said about mesmerizingly walking out from a salon feeling like absolute royalty. Lots and lots of thanks to Tanya and Sally Hershberger for making it possible! Looking forward to trying some of the texture and volume lift sprays and sharing it with you guys here on NB.

Beads only

I'm excited to start sharing some of the photos from my Style Lab with Luisaviaroma! This first set, I'm wearing this STUNNING Emilio Pucci dress, complete in extensive beading from hem to hem. I was completely blown away with the extravagant burst of color--what makes Emilio Pucci, Emilio Pucci--and the lack of a consistent pattern. Equally appropriate for the holidays and for summer time, this Pucci number is hard to beat. Long sleeved, short hem, boat neckline, peeks of skin under black tulle- fun and flirty dress perfection. While I can appreciate colors and prints, they usually aren't a big part of my wardrobe. For the Style Lab though, I thought it would be relevant to try out Emilio- after all, we were in Florence. Thanks Luisaviaroma for letting me play dress up with this stunner!

Angeleno layers

Neon Blush, 3.1 Phillip Lim cropped sweater, Zara tank and striped shorts, Céline Audrey sunglasses, oversized black sunglasses3.1 Phillip Lim sweater, Zara top and shorts, Céline sunglasses, Stella & Bow necklace

Finally back in LA and I'm back to layering it So Cal style- cropped and short everything. I didn't really mean to go MIA but it got increasingly hard to connect to the inter web after Paris. It's probably a good thing because disconnecting really allowed me to soak in the new environment. Paris/Belgium/Spain/Italy were all amazing, for the lack of a better word, and I can't wait to start posting some of the photos from my trip in each of the countries (and most excitingly, from my Style Lab with Luisaviaroma!). I hope you all had a fantastic start to 2014. This year's going to be a good one, I just know it.
