Topshop top, Ksubi denim shorts, Mango bag, Oliver Peoples sunglasses, Vanessa Mooney cuff, Zara sandals, Laura Mercier lip stain, YSL nail lacquer
As a girl who normally loves dressing for the fall (and really only delights in shopping for said season, like I'm already looking at jackets and sweaters), dressing in the summer is the least favorite. Just because 90% of the time, everything just feels like one sticky hot mess by the end of the day, regardless of how much or how little you have on. I'll be traveling a lot in the next month and while I'm really looking forward to going to new (and familiar) places, I can't stop thinking about how unbearable it'll feel to even roam. And while thinking of travels, I also realized my lack of sandals. I think I got too swept up in heeled boots for fall/winter that I forgot all about... summer. In this heat, Zara's basic leather sandals are perfect with a minimalist top and black denim shorts combo, and a hassle-free studded suede bag. Here's to hoping we can beat the odious heat this weekend- happy Friday guys!
VS PINK lace tee, Kasil Workshop skinnies, Jeffrey Campbell sandals, Jennifer Zeuner necklace and bracelet
Sorry for the tiny hiatus, I started feeling a little under the weather Saturday morning and have not felt upwards since then. But at least the summer sun is out--I'd rather be sick in the warmth than in the cold (I think). Anyway, as an ode to the first day of summer, I wore this Victoria's Secret PINK neon lace tee over my favorite pair of striped skinnies, and some kickin' sandals from JC. Looking through VS PINK's collection leaves me nostalgic of the good ol' days- carefree summers in between school years, copious walks on 3rd Street Promenade, kayaking with friends through a secluded Corona del Mar before we all left for college, sipping on strawberry lemonade days on end, and fun, easy dressing. I have to admit- the lace tee is a little out of my comfort zone nowadays, but it'll forever be a summer must-have.
Zara shirt, Akira skirt, Karen Walker sunglasses, Zara bag and heels, Jennifer Zeuner bangle
There are a few things I have an affinity for: black boots, denim shorts, huge sunglasses, oatmeal-colored knits... a circle skirt falls right in line with all of these. I love the flounce and the ease it has, and maybe the versatility it carries, too (at least for me). It wasn't until recently that I learned they're relatively easy to make as well, so hopefully one of these days I'll find the time to make one of my own. A trip to downtown to peruse fabric is in order anyway... that should be fun for the DIY-challenged (hello).
Zara shirt and vest, Lovers + Friends floral shorts, 3.1 Phillip Lim sandals, Karen Walker sunglasses, Vanessa Mooney necklaces
Going strong in that streak of wearing white on something see-through, plus a little bit of floral pattern. I love me some yellow and a peek of floral combined. Summer is officially here and I'm welcoming it with layered whites, loose articles of clothing, splashes of bright floral (groundbreaking, I know), and steady sunglass wear.
Choies box clutch, St. John coin purse, Fresh Sugar lip treatment, Céline sunglasses
Posted this on Instagram and got a few inquiries on where the acrylic box clutch was from-- you can find it here! Not Charlotte Olympia, but it'll do. Loving how the see-through nature forces me to simplify what I carry and show to the public- currently storing only important cards in this animal print St. John coin purse.
Zara mesh top, Lover + Friends dress, Joe's Jeans jacket, Luv AJ choker, Ray-Ban wayfarers, Proenza Schouler PS11, Rag & Bone boots
I don't think mesh is realized to its full potential until we get to spring/summer time. You can show as little or as much skin as you'd like just by simply adding a dress, a top, or a bandeau underneath--whatever you choose--and still have fun with layers while properly ventilating, haha. I love layering but it's a undesirable feat when dressing for the summer usually means you should be wearing as few layers as possible. Thankfully, neutral mesh tops add some texture, too, and do the job nicely :)
Zara crop top, Gypsy05 dress, Loeffler Randall clog sandals, Linea Pelle tote, Céline sunglasses, Daniel Wellington watch
A little early for July 4th I know, but the colors red, white and blue are too good together to hold off 'til then. I dusted these Loeffler Randall clog sandals and decided to wear them out recently (is anyone else feeling a little deficient in balancing in anything with platforms nowadays?), and thought they would be perfect with a sort of 90s tinge. Not sure exactly what I was going for sans plaid shirt--maybe I'm quite obsessed with the crop top from Zara (also posted here) and layering it over just about anything--but felt that the extra layer around the hips tied it altogether. I suppose this is the way I'll layer for warmer days.
T by Alexander Wang t-shirt, Proenza Schouler PS11, J Brand skinny, NARS nailpolish, Shashi bracelet, Yves Saint Laurent sunglasses, Threadsence belt, Tarte lip stain, Jeffrey Campbell boots, Bobbi Brown eyeshadow, Marc Jacobs perfume
I think because it's a hard color to wear, I've been on the look out for the perfect blush pink pair of denim skinnies for the longest time. With my current odd obsession with pink hues, I was pretty determined to look for the right ones- I tried this pair from J Brand on a few weeks ago and the pale pink color is a dream with the fit. And as for me, wearing pink anything pretty much calls for tan, brown, and white accents. Would absolutely love the sweet-toned skinny with a boyish, boxy t-shirt, camel colored ankle boots, and some killer round frames... complete with 'dusty rose' nails, 'mauve berry' lip stain, and a dash of 'Daisy'. The color combo embodies a simple summer day, mm.
Spiegel top, Levi's boyfriend jeans, Zara pumps, Proenza Schouler PS11, Céline sunglasses
Temperatures dipped to a lovely mid-70s all weekend and I thought it was opportune to wear this sleeveless turtleneck knit from Spiegel. Ever since I saw campaign photos of the mustard Elin Kling for Marciano sweater, I've developed a soft spot for turtlenecks- they're chic but in that geekish, unassuming way.
I was actually introduced to the brand Spiegel only recently, but it's been an established brand for nearly 150 years (whoa). Spiegel screams American classic, having made special notes on trends and iconic styles throughout the decades. Fast forward to today and you have Richard Lowe III, who is the current International Creative Director of Spiegel. His Spring'13 line is still classic but modern, so I was happy to find a few pieces that I could definitely wear in and out of spring and summer days (hello baseball tee with lace sleeves!). If you're new to Spiegel like myself or want to revisit the brand, try looking for some classic gems that could fit right into your everyday closet with a 20% off code "Spiegel2013". For more info on Spiegel, follow their Twitter and Facebook.
RayBan aviators, Zara top, Topshop dress, Acne boots, Linea Pelle tote
Felt like being a little inconspicuous again and went with all black everything for a day. Much different from the last post, I opted for a black-on-black-on-black look complete with aviators (giveaway still open until 11:59pm PST tonight), a little mesh baroque sleeve detailing, and a high-low dress hem. I'm finding that black on black, as opposed to white on white, makes it much easier to adjust from day to night, and so perfect for lazying around for people who, like myself, usually change between two outfits a day. Hey, sometimes we just feel the need to do a quick clothes swap accordingly for different settings and temps. Or maybe I'm just trying to validate the use of the backseats of my car as a placeholder for my other pairs of shoes. Hah- anyone else do that, too?
