October 2012

First pair

Romwe top, 2020Ave shorts, Joe's Jeans leather jacket, Zara sandals, Vanessa Mooney choker

My mind's been running around a gajillion life questions and just recently I've felt like I've come to some sort of a conclusion. Keywords: sort of! But a closer reach to a conclusion is better than where I was three/four weeks ago. Anyway, when my pals and I stumbled across this graffiti'd wall outside of Urth Caffe in downtown, we were pining over how simply awesome the wings look displayed against the brick. A bit corny, but I'd like to think that coming across this wall was alluding to (albeit temporarily) feeling liberated from my ambiguous, and mentally- and emotionally-draining thoughts. For immediate relief though, I'm just thankful it's already Wednesday which means I'm two days closer to a laid back weekend filled with strictly sushi, movies, and dessert.

Oversized right

Kai-aakmann coat, Forever 21 jumper, Elizabeth & James blouse, Kasil Workshop shorts, Proenza Schouler PS11, Lucky Brand wedges

Got this gorgeous Kai-aakmann coat from Dear Fieldbinder in last week and I can't seem to take my eyes off of it every time I turn to my closet in the mornings. The weight and thickness, and the way it falls--oversized--has gotten me rightfully obsessed. Its length makes it perfect for layering over shorter things like dresses and denim shorts. The coat being a more masculine piece makes pairing it with girlish, shorter hems a perfect combo, too. So glad to have found the quintessential oversized boyfriend coat from Dear Fieldbinder! Happy Monday xx

Inspo: bits and pieces

Inspiration coming from girls whom I admire, gorgeous home spaces, black and white pieces, and buttery-soft leather and carefully-shredded tops... yum. This weekend I'm going to be meticulously organizing and (yet again) cleaning out my closet. For reals this time. I didn't even realize that it's pretty much Halloween weekend? Too bad I was never into Halloween... I know, weird. What're you all doing? xx

Eugenia Kim 'Felix' beanie

There is no question that I love wearing beanies - it's probably the one thing I look forward to wearing the most during the fall/winter. So when this hat popped up around prominent street style photos, I kind of died inside. Eugenia Kim makes excellent headwear and this chunky knit cat-eared beanie does not disappoint at all! I absolutely love it and wish I would/could drop $150 for it, but voices are telling me it's just not practical. Until then, above is how I'd wear it over and over and over again, with different outfits of course.

1) Isabel Marant dress layered over Anna Sui lace shorts; an added touch of neon with this Proenza Schouler chain wallet, and finished with a silver Vanessa Mooney 'Zelda' necklace and velvet Penelope Chilvers boots.

2) Laid back cool with this lame Marc by Marc Jacobs tee and Acne 'Pop' jeans. Statement provided by Alexander Wang heels and 3.1 Phillip Lim large Vendetta bag, all kept together with a classic B-Low the Belt leather belt.

3) Street cat in dolman-sleeved Acne jumper and Stylestalker shorts over Barneys NY tights; accented by this cool Vanessa Mooney 'Sphynx' choker, Jas MB backpack, and completed with height-boosting platform Loeffler Randall boots

Playing with shapes

Romwe sweater, Forever 21 sheer top, James Jeans 1285 skinny, Loeffler Randall platform clogs, Nordstrom beanie, Proenza Schouler PS11

Wearing all of my current favorite pieces in one, as always, makes stepping out of the house feel that much more exciting. I usually love my sweaters floofy and roomy, but this unique Romwe jumper with zippers gave me just enough umph near the hips, with the slight flaring ends making it sensical to be worn fitted to really emphasize that... umph. Paired it with another asymmetrical top (my favorite thing from Forever 21 thus far--also worn here) and over these really, really comfortable skinnies from James Jeans. I'm not exaggerating when I say it's totally slimming and defining and everything else associated with feeling and looking good in ultra-skinnies. No lie.

As for the Loeffler Randall 'Claudelie' clogs, I am in absolute love(!) with the modern and hip feel of the otherwise oldish style. Can't wait to wear them out with shorts, thigh-high socks, sheer stockings, shapeless or even frilly dresses... the usual LA get up. Thanks Loeffler Randall for making shoes that come with these many styling options.

Basking in it

Zara sweater, Kasil Workshop shorts, Madewell belt, Theyskens' Theory boots, Ray Ban wayfarers

Yes, basking in this heatwave--in October!--with denim shorts (also worn here) and a faux leather knit top. Such a sucker for contrasting sleeves (Rag & Bone leather-sleeved jacket, I'm looking at you), though this top was probably made to be worn in weather much lower than 90 degrees. This top/sweater came in such a good color combo, and the difference in texture? Even better. Couldn't resist propagating my unhealthy family of Zara pieces with this top. Besides, it looks like a wintery baseball shirt and I love me some baseball tees.

Skorts and stuff

Quiksilver sweater, Joe's Jeans leather jacket, Line & Dot shorts, Coach bag, Alexander Wang wallet, Zara sandals

A day full of errands and a quick sushi dinner date with my boyfriend Steve resulted in casual and comfy wear - striped Quiksilver traveling 'Sea Crew' jumper (thanks Juley for passing it on!), skort-ish looking shorts from Line & Dot, and the trusty Zara heels that don't ever seem to hurt. I was just getting really excited about sweater weather and getting opportunities to layer things like jackets and knit jumpers, until this week began and it's like summer (the really, really hot period) never ended. Counting down the days until I can whip out these sweet coats and knits I thrifted recently...

Fall attire

Acne coat, Clu top, Current/Elliott jeans, Cheap Monday necklace, Maison Scotch bag, Michael Kors watch, Jacquie Aiche and Avant Garde Paris rings, Topshop socks, Proenza Schouler booties

What I'd rather be wearing: the most perfect shearling coat over a basic top and near-perfect boyfriend jeans, and cutesy, frilly socks paired with patent leather, pointy booties to girlify the boyfriend-inspired upper half. As captioned on my Pinterest, this Acne velocite shearling jacket is probably the shearling coat of my dreams--I love the textures, the oversized fit, and the buckle at the bottom is always a great touch in my book. I hate to admit these superficial desires, but I've probably whined to my boyfriend a good amount for the past week about this piece. Now if only I could actually afford it and uhh, actually live in a place where the weather and the coat make sense together.

The blues

thrifted denim jacket, Romwe vest, Forever 21 top, Madewell belt, Forever 21 skirt, Zara sandals, Coach mini duffle

Something about crisper weather makes me want to get back into the groove of thrifting. I found this denim jacket a while back and loved it for its boxy shape and awesome zippers (a nice change to a denim jacket's typical button hardware). The fit is rather masculine, which persuaded me to balance the sex of the outfit out by wearing a skirt and heels. Ha. Rolled-up sleeves, a layered sleeveless vest, and a slouchy knit top with a whole lot of texture added to the mix and there ya have it, my reliable layered get-up for the onset of fall here in LA (which, in most other places, doesn't really count as fall). It gets quasi-chilly here and then it disappears and comes back, and so forth. So this works.

Later summer

images via Pinterest

A little bit of Sunday inspiration for the last weekend (fingers crossed) of the remaining bits of residual heat -- appreciating looks from Balenciaga's spring/summer line (my favorite from PFW), different silhouettes, new cuts for shorts, exposed (white) brick, bomb bomber leather jacket with zips in all the right places, slouchy potato-sackish tops, short dos, vaulted ceilings with huge light-welcoming windows, maximizing your space in living rooms vs. leaving things simple and sort of bare. This week we're dipping into mid- to low-70s, so I guess this is LA's au revoir to spring/summer.

Thanks for all your love on my previous post on New York, but most of all thanks for not hating on the ridiculous length of the post! For those who asked, the high-low black dress is from Topshop, knotted grey top is from Forever 21, 'layered' black dress is from Rag & Bone, white vest is from Zara, slouchy gray cardigan is from Haute Hippie, and the oxblood chunky boots are from Topshop. xx

New york this time around

Probably the most annoyingly long photo diary to date, but here it is. New York in all of its glory--the humidity, great people, the last two days of gorgeous weather I did get to experience, lobster rolls and more lobster rolls, breathtaking shows, strolling around Williamsburg, the Brooklyn flea, people watching, the High Line (my favorite spot), sushi and more sushi, retreating to random places to escape the humidity, making long excursions across the ends of Manhattan for cookies, cupcakes, macarons, and ice cream... surprise surprise. At the end of it, all of the crap that sprouted from the bug bites from day 1 suddenly seemed acceptable. NY was/is worth it.
